Item details

The item details is just that - details about inventory items. Most of the information is populated from the receipt or addition process, but there are additional details which can be filled in. The page is a top-to-bottom scroll. Clicking the menu bar just zooms you to the relevant portion of the scroll.

Most fields will not be filled in by default. The granularity is not necessary for most items. However, it can be useful to populate some of them, in certain cases. The fields are all writeable, so you can make corrections and additions as necessary (provided you have privilege to do so).

General -> Owner: If you want to keep track of personal stocks within the lab, you can create items and assign them to yourself. Do not create items that are not to be shared by the whole lab. If you want to maintain your own personal stock inventories, create a new lab for yourself.

General -> Amount in Stock: If you know the exact amount remaining of that particular item, fill it in. The "last updated" field should change when you do, so others people will know when you last counted it.

Location: If you move something and want to leave it there permanently, change the location. This is not recommended, but if you have a good reason to reorganize the lab, it will at least let everyone know where things are.

Type: There are many fields here that could be populated to track material identity and usage. Feel free to fill it in, but doing so for every chemical in the lab is simply not practical.

Specs -> Expiration Date; Specs -> Lot #: Both useful to fill in, if the information is available. An expired item can generate an alert to order fresh material, if the auto reminder is turned on. The lot # is usually in the location notes, but it can be helpful to put it here for the sake of completion.
